Have you ever tried to write a bio about yourself? It's complicated. I'm a little bit of this and a little bit of that and a lot more of a lot more other stuff, and the words are too wordy and not wordy enough. The negative space around a Beth-shaped presence in the universe is full of curious things, and the even more vast space within the Beth-shaped presence is an infinite canvas where some aspects are hard-carved and others are malleable. As are we all, I think.

Deep in The Heart of Texas
I spend a fair amount of time thinking about identity and how we define our lives and interests with circles drawn and overlapping. We bucket our interests, label the things we carry, and stack our dreams in shoeboxes. If I define myself by geography, I'm Texan by origin and return, but I've lived and worked in many states and countries, notably Germany for a decade and India off and on enough to fill a few passports.

You may assume that, as a Texan, I'm politically conservative, but I fall slightly left of center. Regarding politics, I care about good citizenship, community welfare, and investment in the care and maintenance of our common infrastructure. I care about free speech and self defense. You may also assume I'm religious, but my spiritual beliefs are private. I was raised protestant, but I have healthy respect for all religions and the clear separation of church and state. The golden rule is a pretty good one by which to live. I'm a Trekkie: live long and prosper.

I'm fifty, which means, I have a couple of degrees, awards, and a decades-long career. By trade, I run an intranet, also considered "a digital employee experience," or "knowledge management hub," or "whatever fancy thing we want to call how we share information in a company" today. I have a lot of thoughts and opinions about everything related to intranets: context, relationships, platforms, capabilities, integrations, content, communities, discoverability, performance, security, privacy, accessibility, analytics...etcetera, etcetera. I have the soul of a librarian, and I love systems, maps, and worlds within worlds. I relate a lot to that episode in The Big Bang Theory where Sheldon organizes his friend's closet during a party.

I'm a mom. I highly recommend it, but once you cross that line, you will know fear unlike you've ever known, understand war and the extremes to which you will go to keep a bag of flour from breaking, and learn to let go a little more every day for the rest of your life. I also have a fluffy, brave dog.
